Many people think that they cannot be a good climber on their bikes. They think that certain people can easily power up hills and certain people cannot. This is not true. A good climber is all mental, its not so much about the physical side. If you prepare your mind for a climb then you will power up it.
If you dread a climb then those non positive thoughts will make it bad. If you force yourself to not dread a climb, force yourself to think it will be a nice easy climb then it will be. These positive thoughts will force your body to react with positive energy. By doing this it will make even the toughest climb seem not that bad. Do not dwell on the climb or the effort it will require. Remember to keep thinking those positive thoughts all the way to the top. If you let your resolve flag halfway through you will be stuck granny gearing it up to the top and lose all that hard work you did on the first half.
The next best way to get to be a better climber is to force yourself to climb! You will need to practice a lot if you are going to get better. Go online and research different climbing workouts to find one that works for you. You will need to do one of these extremely intense work outs twice a week if you are really intent on getting better.
Finally you will need to work on building up a stronger core. When you ride up hill your ab and back muscles will work much more than usual to help to stabilize your pelvis as you strain to pedal up hill. As those muscles get tired during the climb they will relax and allow your form to get a lot worse. This will trip pain receptors in your back and abs and you will feel it. If you want to avoid this problem then you need to get your core muscles in much better shape.
